Every organisation has ambitions.
To become more innovative.
More resilient.
More collaborative.
More trusted.
More productive.
The question is not whether those ambitions are worthwhile.
The question is what makes them possible.
Most organisations invest in systems, technology, processes and leadership development.
All of these matter.
But they only achieve their full potential when people consistently make intentional, helpful choices.
That is Human Agency.
When Human Agency is strong, something begins to change.
People take responsibility before they are asked.
Ideas are shared before opportunities are lost.
Difficult conversations happen before problems become crises.
Trust grows because behaviour becomes more consistent.
Learning accelerates because mistakes become opportunities rather than threats.
Innovation improves because people feel able to think differently.
None of these outcomes happen because a new policy was introduced.
They happen because people choose differently.
That is why I believe Human Agency may be one of the most under-utilised organisational resources we possess.
We often invest enormous effort improving the visible outcomes.
Perhaps we should spend more time strengthening the resource that creates them.
