And rightly so.
When people feel safe, they speak up.
They contribute.
They bring more of themselves to work.
But there’s a side we don’t talk about enough.
Safety on its own doesn’t create performance.
In fact, without challenge… it can quietly create stagnation.
Because high performance doesn’t come from comfort.
It comes from the tension between feeling secure enough to contribute — and stretched enough to grow.
Too much challenge without safety creates fear.
Too much safety without challenge creates drift.
The balance is where it gets interesting.
And that balance isn’t created by programmes or initiatives.
It’s created by the behavioural environment leaders shape every day.
That’s where performance either accelerates… or slowly fades.
