Human Agency: Unlocking the Potential You Already Have

When organisations face new challenges, the first instinct is often to look outside.

New technology.

New systems.

New structures.

New recruits.

Sometimes those investments are exactly what’s needed.

But sometimes the greatest opportunity is already sitting in the room.

Every organisation already possesses Human Agency.

The ability of its people to make intentional, helpful choices.

The question is not whether it exists.

The question is how much of its potential is actually being realised.

Imagine a workplace where people consistently choose to speak up.

Choose to listen.

Choose to learn.

Choose to collaborate.

Choose to take responsibility.

Choose to help others succeed.

The organisation hasn’t acquired a new resource.

It has simply enabled more of the one it already had.

That possibility is what continues to fascinate me.

Because if Human Agency really is one of the most under-utilised organisational resources, its potential may be far greater than we have yet imagined.

That is one of the ideas behind my continuing work through Arbitrium.
