I’ve recently realised something simple yet profound:
Just because someone is listening to you, doesn’t mean they heard you.
And it’s the same with reading.
Many say they’ve “read” a book — but that doesn’t mean they’ve understood it.
When we read, unless we’re truly open to learning something new, we only absorb what supports our existing beliefs. Our minds filter reality to protect our comfort zone.
I’ve had parents tell me they’ve read my book, How to Break Free from Fear – The Power of Choice, and then say they can’t get their child to read it.
That’s usually a sign they missed the deeper message — because if they had truly understood it, they’d realise the change doesn’t begin with their child. It begins with them.
Growth starts the moment we take responsibility for our own choices — for the beliefs, thoughts, and emotions that shape the messages we send out every day.
The key to improving anything in life is to first improve yourself.
And remember: the responsibility for communication lies with the transmitter, not the receiver.
If others don’t understand your message, it’s not their fault.
It simply means it’s time to retune yourself — not them.
